This face spanner wrench works well. The thing to note is that it will open much farther than the 4″ that the name suggest and that you may be able to get by with a smaller version of the same wrench, which were much cheaper.

Very simple pin spanner, face spanner wrench. Useful for repairing hydraulic cylinders or aircraft struts.

Works great, a nice tool to have.

This wrench is all business. Looks like it was hammered out by a blacksmith. Solid. Functional. Crude. Will last forever. Comes in a plastic bag. No packaging for the landfill.BUT …. did I mention it cost $46. Marked down from $76?This purchase illustrates the dilemma of those who would really like to buy American. If Harbor Freight imported a version of this tool they could probably sell it for six bucks. Any third world country that worked with metal could make this tool. It is decidedly low tech. But HF didn’t have one so I had to cough up the $46. I realize that if my only choice was to buy American my tool bench would be pretty sparsely populated. And that is a sad thing. If you need one, buy this one. It is cheaper than taking your hydraulic cylinder to the shop as the only thing more expensive than an American made tool is the hiring of the hand that holds it.
