Performs above, and beyond the older magnetic types!

Interesting enough, this tool has been around since 2011. First introduced, as by IDEAL Industries as their 33-piece; Item# 35-933 with a new patented, multi-bit, chuck system. To make a long-story short, IDEAL purchased the failing S&K Tools Company, and built a new factory dedicated to exclusively ‘Made In America’ tools. Being employed in the IT industry; I subsequently, had previously acquired the IDEAL-version of this tool. After perusing the online catalog, for the newly-minted S&K Company, I found the S&K, ‘other-version’ of this screwdriver. On neither-version, do you get the adapter-bit for 1/4″ sockets. Not really a deal-breaker in any sense of the word. The S&K 73516 is a solidly-made tool, like it’s IDEAL sibling. The S&K item is clearly made-in-America; and I assume, so is the IDEAL branded one. Access to the tool-body is through a rotating-cap, where only the smaller-bits can be held. I have a number of other brands incorporating this rotating feature, and none of them have ever failed. The shank of the driver is approximately: 3″ including the locking-mechanism. Longer bits, and styles can be acquired from any number of after-market sources. I use impact bits in my tools; as they are, the far better-option. This screwdriver performs above, and beyond the older magnetic-versions. A handy alternative, for those who don’t wish to purchase multiple-screwdrivers [e.g., Torx, Robertson, Pozi-drive, Allen, and Security-types]. I’m happy with either of these tools, but they may not be your cup-of-tea.

    The Best Screw Driver Around!

I purchased this screwdriver thinking that it may come in handy every now and then at work. I am an aircraft mechanic by trade. Aircraft have a ton of screws used in their construction, including many styles and sizes of fasteners. Using a traditional screwdriver just isn’t practical. Since purchasing I have used this screwdriver so much, I just put it in my pocket as soon as I get to work every day. All I can say is “wow”. Most drivers use a magnet or spring ring to retain the bit and do not work very well. They either fall out too easily, or you need a set of pliers to yank the bit out. The lock on the SK is the best I’ve seen. It holds the bit like a set of vise grips, but will easily release it by pulling on the locking mechanism and just turning it upside-down. The spinning end cap is also very nice for pushing hard while turning a screw. It will hold around 5 bits in the body. The cap at first seemed a little chincy, but after using it daily for 6 months it hasn’t given me any trouble at all. I would love to see SK use the same style of bit retainer in a 1/4in hex for drill/impact driver use.
